What is experiential counseling?

Experiential counseling is a supportive conversation with someone who has personal experience with similar life challenges. This may be related to anxiety, panic attacks, addiction, grief, or another difficult period in life.

An experiential counselor does not share theoretical solutions from the role of a bystander, but meets the person as an equal – person to person. It is the shared experience that often creates a deeper understanding and sense of security.

How is experiential counseling different from therapy?

Experiential counseling is not psychotherapy or a medical service.
I do not diagnose or prescribe treatment.

Experiential counseling offers:

  • non-judgmental listening
  • sharing experiences when it is supportive
  • practical and human support
  • a space to express thoughts and feelings

If you need clinical or medical intervention, I will refer you to the appropriate specialist.

Who is experiential counseling suitable for?

Experiential counseling is suitable for people who:

  • feels anxious or experiences panic attacks
  • wants to talk about addiction
  • has lost a loved one and needs support in coping with grief
  • is close to someone diagnosed with ADHD
  • seeks understanding and a safe space to chat

Often the first step is simply having the courage to speak up.

What does experiential counseling offer?

Experiential counseling helps:

  • better understand your experience
  • reduce feelings of loneliness
  • find new ways of coping
  • to restore faith in oneself

Sometimes a person doesn't need an immediate solution. They need someone who really listens.
